Welcome our new interim pastor

Dr. Kevin Blackwell

Dr. Kevin Blackwell is the Assistant to the President for Church Relations and Director of the Ministry Training Institute at Samford University.  Dr. Blackwell has been a Church Coach/Consultant, Interim Pastor and Senior Pastor at several churches throughout Alabama.  He is the 2011 recipient of the Troy L. Morrison Award for Pastoral Leadership presented by the Alabama Baptist Convention.

Bro. Kevin will be partnering with the staff, the deacons, and committees to assess, encourage and help 12th Street in the days to come. He will begin filling the pulpit on Sunday November 19th.  He is dedicated to seeing 12th Street remain and grow strong in the days to come.

He and his wife, Lorrie have four children:  Maggie (19); Andie (17); Averie (14); and Brodie (13).  They are residents of McCalla, Alabama.

When you see Bro. Kevin please do thank him for his dedication to our church at this important time and begin praying for him as he leads us to be the church God has for us to be in the days to come.

Sunday morning, October 15th, our Senior Pastor, Dr. Craig Carlisle, presented his resignation letter in both services. He has served 12th Street since February 2008. Though leaving 12th Street Bro. Craig and Tammy are staying in Etowah County as he accepts the position of Director of Missions at the Etowah Baptist Association. He is looking forward to ministering to the pastors of his beloved hometown and encouraging the gospel to be spread throughout its churches. A reception will be held for Bro. Craig and Tammy on Sunday October 29th at 2p in the dining room. Bro. Craig will begin his new position on November 1st, 2017.

A Few Questions & Answers

WHAT DOES THE PASTORAL SEARCH COMMITTEE VOTE MEAN?

According to our bylaws: "The election shall be held at a Sunday morning service with each member present nominating give (5) members by secret ballot.  The five members receiving the highest number of votes shall be elected with the next two highest number of votes serving as alternates to replace any of the first five in the event of their inability to serve.  The Active Deacons shall serve as the teller committee and shall make a report of the balloting to the church as soon as possible.  Immediately after election, this committee shall have the counsel of the Active Deacons relative to the full responsibility of the Pastor and the church to each other, within a framework of the church's By-laws and Constitution."

WILL THERE BE AN INTERIM PASTOR OR PREACHER?

Yes, Dr. Kevin Blackwell of Samford University will be helping us with not only filling the pulpit weekly but also meeting with our staff, deacons and committees to help promote health and progress as we prepare for our next Senior Pastor.

Once the Pastoral Search Committee is formed this information will be made available. Thank you for the interested.

What can we do as a member?

First, start praying for this committee, your staff, and 12th Street Baptist, your church. The days to come could be challenging, but if we remain focus on our mission as a church we will see the best of days for His kingdom. 

Secondly, be in attendance for our special vote on November 5th, we need to hear your voice.

    All Church Vote

    In both services on Sunday November 5th we will be casting our vote for the Pastoral Search Committee. This will be the only time that we will hold this vote. Please plan to attend one of these services.

    A reception honoring and celebrating Bro. Craig and Tammy's almost decade worth of service and love to 12th Street will be held in the dining room from 2pm-4pm.
